Words

Messages dwell within words
like shadows inside dimly-lit houses.
How did Rilke envision innerweltsraum?
What does Nietsche mean by will?

No matter how we flood the walls
darkness builds a nest beneath the eaves
and draws us inward. Without it,
we might never have opened the door

or dug the foundation or shaped
the bricks to build the house,
abandoned now
to the immaculate webs of spiders.
