Learning To Read
She stepped from her deck to the strand
of beach to stand
where she could read
the sky. The lead
pelican dropping like a brick.
The ocean thick
with living things.
A chevron's wings
rigid on easy thermals in
the heat. The din
of gulls. Their loud
lament a shroud.
