Alan Botsford Saitoh, a Japan-based American poet, has authored two books of poetrymamaist: Learning a New Language and A Book of Shadows. His book of essays and poems, Walt Whitman of Cosmic Folklore, is forthcoming in 2010 from Sage Hill Press. A Pushcart nominee, his poems have appeared in River Styx, Yemassee Literary Journal, and Mickle Street Review, among others. He teaches at Kanto Gakuin University where he co-edits Poetry Kanto.
'In Her Gorgeousness He Stood Transfixed'
In her gorgeousness he stood transfixed
All through childhood, waiting to give her flowers
That she would stem and water.
Her gorgeousness too terrible for his eyes to behold.
Little did he know how little he knew
Of her gorgeousness, that deep-sided awesomeness
When a child in her sight.
And for the man now in her sight she grew
The wings of an angel and flew
Far, far into the night.
