Returning
First time since the accident—
the tree, half-standing,
seems to hold
in its snap-jagged trunk
the moments of just after,
though it's been months.
We spot flowers,
white blossoms,
size of a thumb nail,
stems a few inches tall.
Oh to be small enough
to follow white flowers
like old-fashioned street lamps
lighting the village
after dark.
