After The Funeral

I emptied his bookshelves
into cardboard liquor boxes
drove them to the library
for their end of summer sale
box after box
carried from car
to a giant trailer
in the back lot
stack upon stack
imagining buyers
fingering the spines
running a nail
along a line of text
lips moving in a whisper
